SACTO

The Stage Air Cyclonic Thermal Oxidiser (SACTO) is a combustion chamber at the tail end of the process to facilitate thermal combustion of any combustible excess gas before release into the environment through the stack.

Most importantly SACTO functions as a safety equipment for the plant to thermally combust excess combustible gas in the system before release into the environment in any operational situation including start-up, shutdown, emergency shutdown and normal operation. This helps emissions to be more environmentally friendly and meet regulatory standards.

Anergy’s SACTO

The SACTO serves a dual function as both a safety mechanism and an emissions control.

In the event of emergency and normal shutdown, the SACTO functions to combust all the combustible gases in the system before releasing into the environment. This prevents the syngas within the system to build up unwanted pressure or even create a back flow, and many other undesirable effects.

Additionally, the SACTO also combusts volatile organic compounds and organics into stable products, reducing harmful emissions like oxides of nitrogen and sulfur, carbon monoxide and other hazardous air pollutants.

During start-up, the SACTO will combust any residual gases in the system before any materials are fed into the system as part of the start-up procedure.

Another key difference with Anergy’s SACTO is its dual fuel function using a control system to selectively switch between fuel sources, such as start-up fuel like natural gas and LPG, and clean syngas.

Start-up fuel is required to power up the SACTO for the process. It is imperative that the SACTO is running because it acts as a final check to ensure that the emitted gas stream does not contain any volatile organic compounds and harmful gases. Subsequently, when the process reaches a steady state, syngas can be used in place to power the SACTO at a minimum rate to minimise the syngas usage to power the SACTO.

Advantages of addition of Anergy SACTO

With increasingly stricter regulatory requirements on emission standards, Anergy’s SACTO subsystem provides a reliable solution for ensuring compliance and safe operation of the HTP plant. In the long run, Anergy’s SACTO system positions your plant for long-term efficiency, cost savings and sustainability standards.

Safe Operation

Anergy’s SACTO is strictly engineered using EN standards as a minimum requirement, our in-house mass and energy balance models and proprietary sizing calculations. This detailed design allows for controlled performance across start-up, steady state and shutdown flow scenarios, which allows for a reliable, safe and compliant process.

Complete combustion

Anergy’s SACTO will be designed to be able to fully combust all combustible gases within the system in any operational situation. Consideration will be made for the worst case scenario to ensure that complete combustion and no combustible gases is released into the environment. The combustion air fan will also be designed to provide the excess air required for complete combustion and at the same time, meet the required emissions standard.
