This pilot plant for Lapwing energy is part of the initiative for decarbonizing the agriculture industry in the UK. With the support from the UK government, Department for Energy Security & Net Zero, this is the first of its kind in the effort to decarbonize the agriculture industry.
The Biochar will be sequestered in the soil for the farms. The biochar, at the same time, will help to hold some nutrients required for the plants that would otherwise get washed up during the rewetting of the peatland.
The electricity produced will be used for the local farm usage with any excess to be exported to the grid. Any waste heat from the process will be used for drying the feedstock.
Completion is expected in 2024, watch this space for more photos and updates as soon as available.
